Shame Trump, Shame!

The leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said Muslims should be banned from entering the US, in the wake of the deadly California attacks.

He basically wants to save arms/weapons business and relating to that economy. In America, we have found that everyday arms/guns have been used by some people - arrogant - somehow, everyday someone is shooting general people, but no words relating to religion were got from Trump. When shooter found as Muslim, then he is shouting.

What a mentality!
He doesn't know Islam, Muslim and IS are not the same thing.

Shame Trump, Shame! You are not efficient to be the Leader and also to be the President!

Pakistan Lying

From Daily Star, on 06.12.2015:

“In the name of God and a united Pakistan, Dacca is today a crushed and frightened city. After 24 hours of ruthless, cold-blooded shelling by the Pakistan Army, as many as 7,000 people are dead, large areas have been levelled and East Pakistan's fight for independence has been brutally put to an end."
This was the famous intro of the story written by Simon Dring, the 27-year-old reporter of The Daily Telegraph of London that appeared on the March 30, 1971 issue.
Simon and 34 other journalists from the US, Australia, Britain, Canada,, France, Japan and Russia had converged on Dhaka in March 1971, staying at Hotel Intercontinental (now Ruposhi Bangla) to report on the exciting event of a Bangali leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman taking over power from the repressing West Pakistanis. The world interest was not so much for the Bangalis as for Pakistan, a strong ally of the US in the global politics of Cold War. The US was pouring in huge military aid to Pakistan in its fight against the spread of communism.
They got more than they had expected as the Pakistan army cracked down on the unarmed civilians on March 25 midnight in history's most horrendous civilian annihilation nicknamed “Operation Searchlight”.

There is no place for terrorist

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for Friday's coordinated suicide bombings and shootings, which have re-ignited a row over Europe's refugee crisis and drawn calls for a halt to the ongoing influx of Muslim asylum-seekers.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins told that three jihadist cells staged co-ordinated hits on Friday night (13.11.15) at bars, a concert hall and soccer stadium, killing 129 people and injuring 352, including 99 who were in a serious condition.

France has said it is in a state of war and has vowed to defeat the Islamic State in its bases in Iraq and Syria, which French warplanes have been targeting for months as part of a US-led campaign against the self-declared caliphate.

President of France said no mercy would be shown.

"Faced with war, the country must take appropriate action," Hollande said after an emergency meeting of security chiefs.

Former president Nicolas Sarkozy said in a statement: “The war we must wage should be total.”

"I do not want any preachers of hatred on Belgian soil! There is no place for them in Belgium," Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said on Twitter.

We should remember above speech on the related issue of our country. Every so called democrat country and human right activist should memorize above speech.

Bomb attack on the Mosjid!

A suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Saudi Arabia has left 15 people dead, 4 of them are Bangladeshi. The Islamic State (IS) group says it carried out the attack. The group has already claimed two deadly attacks on Shia mosques in May.

They have killed muslims who were in praying in Mosjid. And they are saying they are doing it for Islam! What a brain and mind of them! Wont they want to people go to Mosjid for praying? What is the difference between them and those non-muslim against whom they have claim for throwing bomb to the mosjid?

Abdur Rahim Harmachi and Sumon Mahbub,  bdnews24.com

According to WB’s World Development Indicators Database and IMF’s World Economic Outlook, Bangladesh advanced 14 steps from the 58th position to 44th in the world economy in the last two years.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal presented the reports of the two global lending agencies at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
According to the WB and IMF reports, Bangladesh economy ranked 58th in the world with a GDP of $149.99 billion based on current price in 2013.

In 2015, the GDP grew to $205.3 billion taking Bangladesh to the 44th position in the world economy.

The WB and IMF published the reports in April.

After the reports were presented at the ECNEC meeting, the prime minister said: “We maintained over 6 percent GDP growth in the last six years. It’s really an outstanding achievement for us.”

The planning ministry in a media statement quoted her as telling the meeting: “Everybody has contributed to this achievement. I hope the economy will continue to surge ahead.”

Hasina stressed structural changes with ‘proper management’ of the resources the nation had.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent Dhaka visit also described over 6 percent growth for last several years as ‘outstanding’.

After the ECNEC meeting, the planning minister said: “Our position in the global economy is improving by the day. We’re benefiting from the over 6 percent GDP growth for six years on a row.”
Bangladesh’s economic advance has pleased the World Bank’s Dhaka office Chief Economist Zahid Hossain.

He told bdnews24.com the progress had brightened Bangladesh’s image in the international arena.

“Foreign investors will now show their interest to bring funds into Bangladesh. It will play a positive role in securing foreign loan and aid,” he added.

The US economy maintained its top position in the world in 2015 with a GDP of $18.12 trillion. It was followed by China ($11.21 trillion), Japan ($4.92 trillion) and Germany ($3.41 trillion).

In 2013, the GDP of the four countries was $16.77 trillion, $9.24 trillion, $4.21 trillion and $3.73 trillion respectively.

The United Kingdom now ranks fifth and France sixth.

According to the reports, India moved three places to seventh position from 10th. The South Asian country’s GDP stood at $2.31 trillion in 2015.

The reports suggest Bangladesh surpassed Vietnam, Tajikistan, Portugal, Qatar, New Zealand and Peru.

Executive powers to president

Law commission chief blasts proposal to give executive powers to president

Prakash Biswas, bdnews24.com

Published: 2015-03-10 10:41:22.0

The suggestion had been made by Centre for Policy Dialogue chief Rehman Sobhan and a few other members of the civil society at a discussion on ways to avert repeated spikes in confrontational politics ahead of national polls.

The former chief justice pointed out that people were the source of all power in a democracy. “You cannot just handover state power to someone.”

He maintained that the present Constitution assigned powers to each and everyone and any increase in the president’s power would amount to a constitutional violation.

“Nobody except the people’s representatives should exercise state power - not even the first citizen, the president.”

He said the power should remain with those accountable to the people. “Since parliament is a representation of the people, we show our accountability through them.

“We tend to forget that the people own the country and that the Constitution is their directive.”

In this context, Khairul pointed out, the president would have to be elected by the people if the post is to be given executive powers.

Only a constitutional amendment could make that possible but the change itself would run counter to the very basis of the Constitution, the former chief justice said.

The Law Commission chief cited the rule of two military strongmen Ziaur Rahman and HM Ershad.

“That was seditious and cannot be welcome,” he said, adding that such provisions fan tendencies to usurp power, and that people would do well to learn from past experience.

He offered a different perspective to highlight the flip side of such changes.

“An MP election contestant spends crores (10 million) of Taka in a constituency. In this context, a presidential contender will have to spend a few hundred crores. Who will provide that money?

“…It is easy to say something, but this system will be totally ineffective for our country.”

Khairul pointed to the world’s biggest presidential democracy, the US. “Thousands of companies donate to the presidential election fund. The big ones then influence the president’s policies, something that is completely undesirable.”

The chief justice said the Westminster system of democracy currently in place in Bangladesh had worked well for India with a population of 1.5 billion for 70 years. “There is no reason why it should not work for us.”

He called for a smoothening of the glitches through proper practice. “There will be problems at the start. There is nothing to panic.

“We should think about how we can make parliament more effective,” he said and urged the civil society to come up with meaningful suggestions.

Now check their mentality. They are ready to kill all of them whom they don’t like for their science-minded thinking. Killers think it is their right. If it is their right, opposite can have same right. But they don’t think that. In this case they don’t want to face trial also. Struggle for justice is also facing ‘brush firing’ by them and also by their white lobbyists. In this case they are trying to say they did not kill anyone.....they want international standard...they want white lawyer...they want various facilities, but no justification is explained; they want and they force for that, they want to destroy all things i.e. infrastrucure, Moshjid, Books, even Holly Quran, all animals, trees and also general public - all are going to destroy or burn, if no one fulfill their demand. They never say sorry for their acts of genocide and crimes against humanity and never want to face trial. They believe on what they cant say in front of the court. They do all of things in the name of Islam. Of whom agenda mainly they are fulfilling by selling the name of Islam?

'Civilians' dress for some other hidden interest

South Asia researcher for Human Rights organization, Faiz Abbas said bdnews24.com that fire bombing is the criminal act and it is for political purposes. They are who are doing these once are the criminal and will be brought to justice.
Over the last two months, the BNP-Jamaat alliance siege casualties condemned the violence, he said during releasing Amnesty International's annual report on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in London.
He said, "We think these attacks or provocation to attacks are done and influenced by politicians under political leaders. We consider that to be really evil.”
During the act of sabotage of the arrestees got as BNP activists', so party leaders have to prevent workers from the petrol bombing.
BNP should have returned their supporters from throwing petrol bombs and set fire to vehicles, if any engagement is found, they have to assist law enforcement to prosecute him.
Secretary of State, USA John Kerry and UN President’s statement are the same. Arsons in the name of politics should be avoided. Criminal acts for political purpose will never get acceptance.
Ha, selukas! What is said by our so called ‘Civil Society’/talk-show talker? Even our dear Dr. Akber Ali Khan said in a talk-show – “I don’t know who are doing that? To find them is the job of police!” – So intelligent comment!
Ill/criminal movement for political purpose should not be supported by the person who wears ‘Civil/Society workers’ typed dress.

Why people will lose their lives on the rivers

It is not acceptable that the disaster on waterway will continue and Ministers will be shocked for tragic incident on the river, in which so many people will lose their lives.

When the rescue operation has been called off in the morning on February 23, 2015 on Padma after passenger ferry MV Mostofa-3 was pulled out and turned around near the banks of the river, 69 bodies were fished out of the river, more than 20 hours after the disaster.

Last year, a similar accident killed dozens in Munshiganj. In 2012, over 100 people died when a ferry sank on the Meghna after colliding with a cargo vessel.

Accidents on Bangladesh’s vast waterways are badly common that are often blamed on overcrowding,  poor vessel quality, lack of skill of captains etc. Probe committee is also a hopeless practice from which no result is found.

Why it will be happened regularly? Why people will die by this type of accident regularly?

Myanmar revokes Rohingya voting rights

I thought Buddhists are cold blooded peaceful people. But recently I have understood that all are 'RABON' (Demon) when religion comes first to secure identity.

Read the following news:

Myanmar revokes Rohingya voting rights after protests

Rohingya Muslims will not be able to vote in Myanmar’s referendum after the prime minister withdrew temporary voting rights following protests.

Hundreds of Buddhists took to the streets following the passage of a law that would allow temporary residents who hold “white papers” to vote.

More than one million Rohingya live in Myanmar, but they are not regarded as citizens by the government.

In 2012, violence between Muslims and Buddhists left more than 200 dead.

The clashes broke out in Rakhine province and sparked religious attacks across the country.

The so-called white papers were introduced in 2010 by the former military junta to allow the Rohingya and other minorities to vote in a general election.

The move to annul the rights is seen as surprising given that it was Prime Minister Thein Sein who originally persuaded parliament to grant them.

The announcement came just hours after demonstrations in Yangon. Those protesting resent what they see as the integration of non-citizens into the country.

“White card holders are not citizens and those who are non-citizens don’t have the right to vote in other countries,” said Shin Thumana, a Buddhist monk who took part in the protest.

“This is just a ploy by politicians to win votes.”

However, Rohingya MP Shwe Maung, whose constituency is in Rakhine, argued that voting rights had only become an issue following the violence in 2012.

Buddhist monks are at the forefront of protests against Muslims. One high profile leader is monk Ashin Wirathu, who recently used abusive language to describe the UN’s special envoy to Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), Yanghee Lee.

In December, the United Nations passed a resolution urging Myanmar to give access to citizenship for the Rohingya, many of whom are classed as stateless.

Diarrhea! Passes out stools by mouth!

Diarrhea is defined as the passage of three or more loose or liquid stools per day (or more frequent passage than is normal for the individual). Frequent passing of formed stools is not diarrhea, nor is the passing of loose, "pasty" stools by breastfed babies.

Diarrhea is usually a symptom of an infection in the intestinal tract, which can be caused by a variety of bacterial, viral and parasitic organisms. Infection is spread through contaminated food or drinking-water, or from person-to-person as a result of poor hygiene.

Interventions to prevent diarrhea, including safe drinking-water, use of improved sanitation and hand washing with soap can reduce disease risk. Diarrhea can be treated with a solution of clean water, sugar and salt, and with zinc tablets.

There are three clinical types of diarrhea:

• acute watery diarrhea – lasts several hours or days, and includes cholera;
• acute bloody diarrhea – also called dysentery; and
• persistent diarrhea – lasts 14 days or longer.

Some people of our country are now suffering from diarrhea and passes stools by their mouth. They are so called ‘Intelligent’ and OMG!, what a misuse of their mouth! So thin, so liquid typed speeches have been passed from their mouth loudly and regularly and after all openly. It is not bedwetting. Bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis) means a child passes urine in the night when they are asleep. Is it gut? The gut (gastrointestinal tract) is the long tube that starts at the mouth and ends at the back passage (anus). What is this? Why they are abusing the power of mouth? Why their speeches are too weightless! Too talkative are they! Won’t the people be free from their diarrhea? Mask their worst smells.

Let the nightmare for people begin!

The ISIS video opens with a black slate that reads, "A Message to Japan." It then shows a kneeling Goto. The man known as "Jihadi John" is standing behind him.
The terrorist speaks in English while holding a knife in his left hand.
"Abe, because of your reckless decision to take part in an unwinnable war, this knife will not only slaughter Kenji, but will also carry on and cause carnage wherever your people are found," the man says. "So let the nightmare for Japan begin."
The video cuts to black as the militant puts the knife to Goto's throat. It then shows the apparent result of the decapitation. It's not clear who conducted the apparent killing.
The knife-wielding masked man with a London accent has been nicknamed "Jihadi John." He has appeared in at least six videos with hostages and has overseen the beheadings of other captives.

This is video of ISIS. They said - 'Let the nightmare for Japan begin'. They have opened burning chamber for burning innocent people.

Over 50 ordinary people have died in arson and petrol bomb attack at vehicles across Bangladesh since Jan 5, when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia called an indefinite transport blockade.
Near about 20 general people were burnt alive when petrol bombs were hurled at a bus on the road. Bus, Truck, Rickshaw, Driver, Helper, PSC-JSC-SSC Examinees, ordinary peoples are captured/attacked/kidnapped/blocked/burned. No peoples are supporting these except some intellegent talk-show talkers. Those talkers feel happy inside when a petrol bomb has been thrown to bus/truck/tempu and burnt ordinary people and make these criminal functions as political functions by their thin speech. Almighty Allah give us a mouth and they are making with that mouth weightless, thin, dirty sentences through beautiful words and inform that how the burning can be stopped!! And lastly they inform us - Let the nightmare for people begin!   Shameless!!

14 citizens unconditionally apologise to Bangladesh war crimes tribunal

Fourteen of the 50 citizens who had issued a statement expressing concern over the conviction of British journalist David Bergman for contempt, have tendered unconditional apology at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
(What was your intention in that time while you will tender unconditional apology! Is it habit to down and bow your head and knee in front of british blood! Is it habit to up yourself through criticizing ICT? Is it habit to criticize everything ICT does?)

They were asked to appear before the war crimes tribunal or to explain their stand through lawyers before Jan 27, 2015.
Accordingly, 14 persons, including Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik, tendered apology on Tuesday.
Ten people, including health activist Zafrullah Chowdhury, have, however, submitted a statement in the tribunal stating that they would argue their case themselves.
The other 25 sought time through their lawyer Anisul Hasan to explain their position.
The court, however, accepted the time extension plea of 14 people who are now staying in Bangladesh. But the plea of 11 others, who are residing abroad, was rejected because they made it through e-mails. They have been asked to make fresh plea following proper procedure.

ICT-2 headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan fixed Feb 8 for the next order.

Those who filed pleas for unconditional forgiveness are Lawyer Shahdeen Malik, M Hafiz Uddin, General Secretary of citizens' platform 'Sujon' Badiul Alam Majumder, former caretaker government advisor Rasheda K Chowdhury, Dhaka University teachers Imtiaz Ahmed, Amena Mohsin and Asif Nazrul, National Coordinator of 'Bangladesh Shishu Bikash Kendra' Nayla Jaman Khan, Shahnaz Huda, environmental lawyer Rizwana Hasan, human rights activist Zakir Hossain, singer Arup Rahi, writer Shahin Akhter and rights activist Ilora Dewan.

ICT-2 convicted Bergman on Dec 2, 2014 for trying to ‘challenge' the tribunal through the ‘irresponsible’ views he expressed about sub-judice matters in his blog.

The judges ordered the British citizen to remain standing in the court for the whole day and fined him Tk 5,000.

The judges had told Bergman to refrain from writing on 'historically settled issue'.

On Dec 20, Bengali daily 'Prothom Alo' published a report on the apprehensions expressed by the 50 citizens. The New York Times, too, carried an editorial along the same lines on Dec 23.

The tribunal, which felt the reports cast aspersions on the judicial system of Bangladesh, had summoned the ‘full versions’ of the statement from the daily.

The daily, then, gave the tribunal a detailed resumé and the address of Hana Shams Ahmed, who had emailed the statement on behalf of the 50 citizens on Dec 18.

Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik submitted to the tribunal the names and addresses of 49 of the 50 citizens on Jan 14.

On Tuesday lawyer M Shamsul Haque pleaded for unconditional forgiveness on behalf of Malik and M Hafiz Uddin.

Human-rights activist and women’s leader Khushi Kabir had, in the mean time, dissociated herself from those ‘concerned citizens’, saying she did not subscribe to the views expressed in the statement.

Luc Besson writes open letter to young Muslims after Charlie Hebdo killings

Director Luc Besson has written a heartfelt open letter to young French Muslims, calling on them to reject extremism in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo killings, reports Deadline.
Besson, director of films such as The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional and Lucy, blamed economic deprivation for the radicalisation of terrorists and promised to work with them for a fairer society.
“My brother, if you knew how badly I hurt for you today, you and your beautiful religion that has been so sullied, humiliated, and singled out,” he wrote. “Forgotten are your strength, your energy, your humour, your heart, your fraternity. It’s unfair and together we will repair this injustice. We are millions who love you and who are going to help you.”
The film-maker, co-writer of current action sequel Taken 3 and founder of France’s hugely successful Eurocorp studio, said French society was based on “money, profit, segregation and racism”.
He wrote: “In some suburbs, unemployment for people under 25 is 50%. You are marginalised because of your colour or your first name. You’re questioned 10 times a day, you’re crowded into apartment blocks and no one represents you. Who could live and thrive under such conditions?”
Besson called on French businessmen and political leaders to help young Muslims escape the economic trap, but also said his “brothers” must take responsibility and find a way forward unconnected to radicalism.
“It costs 250 euros to buy a Kalashnikov but not even three euros to buy a pen – and your response can have a thousand times more impact,” he wrote. “Take power democratically, helped by all your brothers. Terrorism will never win. History is there to prove it.”
Here is the full text of Besson’s letter, as translated by Deadline:
My brother, if you knew how badly I hurt for you today, you and your beautiful religion that has been so sullied, humiliated, and singled out. Forgotten are your strength, your energy, your humour, your heart, your fraternity. It’s unfair and together we will repair this injustice. We are millions who love you and who are going to help you. Let’s start at the beginning. What is the society we’re offering you today?
It’s based on money, profit, segregation and racism. In some suburbs, unemployment for people under 25 is 50%. You are marginalised because of your colour or your first name. You’re questioned 10 times a day, you’re crowded into apartment blocks and no one represents you. Who could live and thrive under such conditions?
Profit comes before all else. We cut and sell the apple tree’s branches and then are shocked there’s no fruit. The real problem is there, and that’s for all of us to resolve.
I call on the powerful, the big bosses and all leaders. Help this youth that has been humiliated and which asks only to be part of society. The economy is in the service of man and not the reverse. To do good is the greatest of profits. Dear powerful, do you have children? Do you love them? What do you want to leave them? Money? Why not a world that’s more fair? That would make your children the most proud of you.
We cannot build our happiness on the misfortune of others. It is neither Christian, nor Jewish, nor Muslim. It is just selfish and it leads our society and our planet straight into a wall. This is the work we have to do beginning today to honour our dead.
Terrorism will never win.
And you, my brother, you also have a job to do. How can you change this society that’s being offered to you? By working, by studying, by taking up a pencil rather than a Kalashnikov. That’s what’s good about democracy, it offers you the noble tools to defend yourself. Take your destiny in hand, take the power. It costs 250 euros to buy a Kalashnikov but not even three euros to buy a pen – and your response can have a thousand times more impact. Take the power, and play by the rules.
Take power democratically, helped by all your brothers. Terrorism will never win. History is there to prove it. And the beautiful image of the martyr walking in both directions. Today there are a thousand [assassinated Charlie Hebdo journalists] Cabus and Wolinskis who have just been born.
Take the power and don’t let anyone take power over you. If those who are presumed guilty of this tragedy really are, know that these two blood-spilling brothers are not yours, and we all know it.
It would at most be two weak-minded individuals, abandoned by society and then abused by a preacher who sold them eternity … Radical preachers who play on and make your misfortune their business have no good intentions. They use your religion only to their advantage. It is their business, their small business. Tomorrow, my brother, we will be stronger, more connected, closer. I promise you. But today, my brother, I cry with you.

Evil thought is not the different thought

Evil thought is not the different thought. Nation’s Father was ‘Razakar’ is the evil thought, not a different thought. Which journalism wants to rescue devils and evil thought in the name of different thought, they should be thrown in dustbin.

The way of life of the people of Bangladesh, the land, the rivers - all these instruments have formed a rich heritage with marked differences from neighbouring regions. It has evolved over the centuries and encompasses the cultural diversity of several social groups of Bangladesh and always avoid thought against the symphony of culture.

Rivers, Green fields, soils, air, sky, rythm   - in all areas of these geographical position flow a symphony. That is why our national anthem is -
My Golden Bengal

My golden Bengal,
I love you.

Forever your skies,
Your air set my heart in tune
As if it were a flute.

In spring, O mother
The fragrance from your mango groves
Makes me wild with joy,
Ah, what a thrill!

In autumn, O mother
In the full blossomed paddy fields
I have seen spread all over sweet smiles.

What beauty, what shades,
What affection, what tenderness!
What a quilt have you spread
At the feet of banyan trees
And along the banks of rivers!

Oh mother mine, words from your lips
Are like nectar to my ears.
Ah, what a thrill!

If sadness, O mother
Casts a gloom on your face,
My eyes are filled with tears!

My golden Bengal,
I love you.

All Bengali polymaths, poets, writers, musicians, revolutionary, folk singers, artists who are voiced by the soul of that symphony are living in history and they are the Rabi Tagore, Nazrul, Jibanananda, Zainul, Sultan, Lalon, Abdul Alim and many others.

Our culture, our language, our independence, our habitual creativeness having an unique harmony are always flowing in our blood. The said harmony is made by the blood, for the blood & of the blood. This is the most important component of blood waved by this geographical area's components flow for and in the people live in here.

Who think against this symphony, against the said harmony, have always defeated and destroyed. Those thought are basically in line with defeated force who tried to establish their thought for long time before 1951 and finally in 1971. On December 16, 1971, that THOUGHT was made as EVIL THOUGHT and by whose blood that is flowing now is Devil.

In this world, no country accepts that thought which is  made as evil thought in that country. All established countries have own rules against evil thought to protect their symphony., If anyone want to politics or make speech, they must do that in line with root, not against the root.

We have to understand this and prepare the same tradition. What you want to do, do in line with our symphony.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman awarded ‘Central Banker of the Year 2015’

Congratulation to Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman for awarded ‘Central Banker of the Year 2015’ from the Asia-Pacific region for stimulating growth and stabilising economy.

From The Banker’s website:
The Banker's Central Banker of the Year 2015 awards celebrates the officials that have best managed to stimulate growth and stabilise their economy.

Central Banker of the Year, Asia-Pacific
Dr. Atiur Rahman, Bangladesh

Dr. Atiur Rahman’s work exemplifies how central banks can play essential roles in providing capital for environmentally and socially aware development without compromising on growth or macroeconomic stability.

“Initially it was not easy. Central bankers are a bit of a conservative, sceptical bunch. They thought it was going to be a disaster,” says Mr Rahman.

He believes that supporting agriculture and small and medium-sized enterprises could avert financial crises. “In many developed countries central banks only create money [and] liquidity in the air. They don’t do much on the ground, which could stop speculative financing and increase liquidity with small deposits. Financial systems would be more stable and have diversified loan portfolios [if this happened],” he says.

One of his initiatives supports tenant farmers with no access to financial services or collateral. Bangladesh Bank lent Tk5bn ($64.7m) at bank rate to non-governmental organisation (NGO) BRAC in exchange for a guarantee, and BRAC in turn organised farmers’ loans. Some 1 million tenant farmers received loans as a result of this invitation, 55% of which are women. The project has a 99% recovery rate.

Bangladesh Bank also established a project to assist street children in June 2014. This was particularly important as without guardians, these children tend to be excluded from the financial sector. Bangladesh Bank set up a Tk2bn refinancing fund for banks to lend to NGOs, including Save the Children, which in turn set up savings accounts for the children for as little as Tk10. Some 14 million such accounts have now been opened. “When they turn 18, they will have money, and they can start small businesses,” says Mr Rahman.

Bangladesh Bank is also promoting and undertaking green financing and bank operational management. Such efforts have not distracted the bank from its core duties, however. Inflation in Bangladesh dropped from 7.5% in 2013, to 6.5% in 2014, while the central bank’s reserves have tripled to Tk22bn during Mr Rahman’s mandate.

Also, Bangladesh gross domestic product has grown by at least 6% per year in the past five years, with a standard deviation of only 0.22%.
